Techniques for Chiropractic Care
At the Balanced Spine clinic in Albany, Auckland we use a variety of techniques depending on your needs.
Diversified Technique
The most common type we use in chiropractic care is called a ‘diversified technique’. This is a manual manipulation method in which we use our hands. The diversified technique was developed in ancient Egypt and has been used ever since. The father of modern medicine, Hippocrates, also makes mention of its use in ancient Greece. In fact, he goes on to say that the key to a healthy life, is a healthy spine. At balanced spine we believe the best chiropractors use techniques like this.
This is because your spine is the switchboard of your body and any disruptions in the spine can lead to a disruption of the whole system. The spinal manipulation is what we call an adjustment, it is a controlled thrust applied precisely on the desired area by the chiropractor’s hands. It helps to restore function to the spine and nervous system and is effective and extremely safe for patients of all ages.
Both Dr Elise and Dr Sara also use soft tissue techniques for those that wish for a more gentle approach.
Sacro Occipital Technique
All our chiropractors have an interest in incorporating the Sacro Occipital Technique (or SOT for short) within their practice, which looks at the relationship between the sacral bone and the occiput (the skull bone)
Proper movement of both these bones is essential for the efficient flow of cerebral spinal fluid up and down the spinal column which has the role of delivering nutrition, removing waste products and acting as a shock absorber for the brain.
SOT is a gentle and effective technique for helping to restore and enhance the body’s natural healing ability.
At Balanced Spine in Albany we only use the best chiropractic techniques for you helping gain the best results.
“We are always aiming to be the best chiropractor on the north shore to give you the best results.”

How Does Chiropractic Work?
Chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which trained specialists (chiropractors) use their hands or a small instrument to apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint. The goal of chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, is to correct structural alignment and improve your body’s physical function.
Adjustments bring balance back to the spine and take the pressure or irritation off the nerves, allowing the body to do the healing naturally.
Chiropractic Equipment
Drop Piece Table
A drop piece table is available at Balanced Spine. This is a table with a segmented drop system that quickly lowers the section of the body being adjusted and allows us to reduce the strain on your vertebrae. This means there will be no “click” “pop” or “twist” to your back when being adjusted.
Chiropractic Blocks
We also use chiropractic blocks at the clinic, this is where two blocks will be placed under your pelvis in specific positions and directions. Your body weight and breathing help to balance the pelvis and your lower back, this takes the pressure or irritation off the nerve and allows for healing.
Chiropractic Activator Device
Another technique requires the use of an activator device. This uses gentle impulse force to restore motion to joints and muscles by allowing us to target small, yet vital areas of your spine and muscles.
Our hands
The most important tool we will use is our hands to locate, analyse and adjust the areas of your spine that are not moving correctly. With our hands we use gentle but fast movements to help the segments in your spine realign, stabilise and function at its best.

Chiropractic care for Arthritis
In our Albany clinic, Chiropractic treatment for Arthritis focuses on two clear and well-established functions.
The first is to enable the body to move more freely. The second is to provide optimal central nervous system functioning to enable the body to best fight the condition over time.
Chiropractic focuses on physical manipulation called chiropractic adjustments, which allow your chiropractor to work directly on your joints to enable mobility and reduce pain.
In addition, the lifestyle benefits of chiropractic include maintaining the body’s alignment and immune system (through optimal support of the central nervous system) which are essential in limiting the devastating effects of all forms of arthritis but especially rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Chiropractic and arthritis are uniquely entwined. Whether the cause of arthritis is an autoimmune disorder, endocrine system failure, environmental factors or genetics chiropractic is uniquely placed to help deal with both the physical symptoms and the whole-body health that can help your body heal and yes… actually help prevent arthritis.
